Local information about Hampstead

Hampstead, also known as Hampstead Village, is an area just four miles from Central London. It primarily covers postcode NW3 and is located in the London borough of Camden, represented by the parliamentary seat of Hampstead and Kilburn. There are 50,000 local residents.

The area has a reputation for being home to London’s most liberal and artistic residents and the area has many museums, theatres and cinemas. Good local schools attract families to the lovely houses, whilst the vibrant pub and restaurant scene is perfect for young sharers in flats and apartments. The famous Hampstead Heath, a hilly parkland, is a very popular weekend spot too. It’s no surprise that Hampstead has many literary references and even its own newspaper, the Hampstead and Highgate Express or “Ham and High” as it is known locally.

Outside the immediate area, popular areas include Chalk Farm, Golders Green, Highgate, Primrose Hill, South Hampstead, Swiss Cottage and West Hampstead. There are some good transport links with underground stations such as Hampstead, Belsize Park, Swiss Cottage and Finchley Road, plus railway stations at Hampstead Heath and Finchley Road & Frognal.
