National Fridge Cleaning Day - How to clean your fridge properly

In honour of National Fridge Cleaning Day, we’ve put together a quick how-to in order to get your fridge sparkling clean!

We know it can sometimes seem like a long and arduous task, but you only need to do it a few times a year. Plus, in between cleans, it’s a good idea to keep some antibacterial wipes handy in case you notice any easy to remove spillages.

Here’s how to get your fridge to sparkle:

1    Remove all food items and any removable shelves or drawers

2    Place shelves and drawers in hot soapy water and leave to soak

3    Spray the interior of fridge with anti bacterial spray or similar

    4    Wipe clean!

5    Wipe down the shelves and drawers, allowing to dry before placing back in fridge

    6    Replace all food items

And there you go!

To make sure your fridge stays fresh, check it once a week for food that may have expired, and be sure to keep raw meats and fish on the bottom shelf of your fridge. That way, any juices won’t drip onto any other food.

Also, to keep your food in the fridge as fresh as possible, you need to keep your food covered - we’re looking at those uncovered baked bean tins! You can read more food storage tips on the Love Food Hate Waste website.

And don’t neglect your fridge doors! Give them a wipe with antibacterial wipes, or warm soapy water, to avoid transferring any germs around your home.
