How to dust lamps

Essentials

  • A vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment

  • Or, a feather duster

  • Or, a lint roller

Method

  • You’ll need to make a decision on how is best to do this depending on the style of shade, and the material.

  • If the shade is made of a robust material, and can handle it, you can vacuum the dust by using the soft brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner. You can also use a lint roller if you’d prefer, although this is best avoided for any fragile lampshades.

  • If the lampshade is more delicate, we’d advise using a feather duster to ensure no damage is caused. Work from top to bottom and be gentle but thorough to ensure all dust is removed.

  • If the shade can be easily lifted off/detached, do so and dust down beneath with a duster or a dry microfibre cloth. If not, do your best to dust the bulb from outside of the shade.

  • Make sure that the switch, cable and base of the lamp are also dusted thoroughly.

  • If you've removed the lampshade to dust beneath, reassemble this now.
