Oven cleaning basics

Essentials

  • Soap & water (we don't recommend using oven cleaning products - they can easily damage the kitchen)

  • Rubber gloves

  • Soft, non-abrasive cloths

  • Empty spray bottle or a bucket/large bowl

Method

  • Firstly, make sure that the oven is completely cool before you begin - you should never attempt to clean an oven that has recently been used.

  • Pop on a pair of gloves - cleaning the oven can be a messy task. Fill a bucket with a couple of squirts of washing up liquid & warm water. Or you can pre-mix your solution in an empty spray bottle.

  • Fill your sink with washing-up liquid & hot water.

  • Remove all trays & racks from the oven. Leave the racks and any dirty trays to soak in the sink while you clean the oven.

  • Dip your cloth into your soap & water solution, or spray the solution directly around the inside of the oven if you're using a spray bottle. Using your cloth, wipe out the inside of the oven thoroughly. Leave any stubborn debris to soak. Remember to clean the inside of the oven door too.

  • Head to the sink and wash up the trays and racks. Leave to air dry or dry using a clean tea towel. Once dried, place back in the oven.

  • Using water & a damp cloth, rinse off all soap & suds from the oven.

  • Close the oven door. Using a clean cloth, wipe down the front of the oven, including the controls.
