Clapton is a part of the London borough of Hackney, in North East London, comprised of Upper and Lower Clapton.

As with other areas of Hackney, such as Dalston and Stoke Newington, Clapton is often described as having a villagey, community feel. The Chatsworth Road market - situated on the outskirts of Lower Clapton is a great example of this. Although not the original market, the spot has been home to such markets for hundreds of years and supports local traders and produce.

Property throughout Clapton is largely comprised of 19th-century terraced houses, mostly in the Victorian fashion. There are also more recently-built houses, as the area was the subject of significant residential development after the First World War.
