Hornchurch (RM12) is a suburban town that is now part of the London Borough of Havering. Hornchurch was formerly a parish within Essex, before being brought into the newly formed borough of Havering in 1965.
Hornchurch is perhaps best known as the home of Hornchurch airfield, which played an important role in both World Wars. During WWI, the airfield was known as RAF Suttons Farm, before being renamed RAF Hornchurch during WWII.
Described as a blend of rural, green space and outer-London suburbia, Hornchurch has become popular with city workers looking to move to an easily commutable and attractive location. The property market boasts larger, detached houses, as well as a variety of converted and purpose-built flats and apartments. There are plenty of houses available with closeby green space and impressive gardens, making Hornchurch an appealing choice for families moving out of the city.
Despite being over 15 miles east of Central London, transport into the city is made easy with Elm Park, Upminster Bridge and Hornchurch tube stations all along the District Line. Local bus routes provide locals with convenient transport routes across Havering and surrounding London boroughs.
