Today is International Cleaners Day!

We wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate the amazing work that cleaners do all over the world - in homes, hospitals, hotels, offices, shops, bars, public transport and everywhere else.

There are over 1 million cleaners in the UK, making up 5% of the UK workforce. And their work is so important - ensuring that our homes, workplaces & public spaces stay hygienic and safe. 

Over the course of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, cleaning work has been more important than ever before. Disinfection has been absolutely critical in healthcare settings, and regular cleaning has been recommended to help prevent the spread of the virus, even in settings where there are no confirmed or suspected cases.

Cleaning - invaluable work, that’s sometimes overlooked

In workplaces & public spaces, cleaning often occurs out of hours, and the hard work of cleaners isn’t always visible. But in the background cleaners are scrubbing, wiping, vacuuming & mopping - to make sure that these spaces are safe and fit for purpose.

And what about the brilliant work of home cleaners up and down the country? Their work might appear simple, but it takes a lot of knowledge & experience to deliver 5* cleaning. 

Think about it - most home cleaners work in dozens of homes each week, where each customer has their own preferences, and their own equipment. So cleaners have to be knowledgeable and adaptable to get the job done! Not to mention the hundreds of different types of surfaces & appliances in people’s homes that all need specific products & techniques to clean.
