Local information about Streatham

Streatham is an area of south London, a few miles from the city centre, meaning “hamlet on the street”. The area retained this original charm for much of its history, mostly famous for the natural springs at Streatham Wells, Streatham Park and Streatham Village. After a period of decline in the 1990s, Streatham is on the up again with plenty of redevelopment work, such as the Streatham Hub next to Streatham railway station.

Streatham is mostly located in the SW16 postcode, but also covers parts of SW12 and SW17, in the London borough of Lambeth. There are good transport links with train stations at Streatham, Streatham Hill and Streatham Common, plus busy Peckham and Croydon are nearby. Housing stock includes art deco mansion blocks along Streatham High Road, as well as some lovely Edwardian and Victorian houses.
