The Housekeep Story

How Housekeep works

Housekeep makes it easy to find a trusted, experienced house cleaner in your local area.

Every cleaner is English-speaking, friendly, reliable and trustworthy. They've been interviewed in-person, background-checked and rated 5-stars by their customers.

As well as being cleaning pro’s, they can help you with household tasks such as laundry and ironing.

Book a regular visit and we’ll send you the same trusted cleaner every week or fortnight. If you take advantage of our free key-holding service, they can even clean while you’re at work.

You manage everything online - from booking to payment. Add visits, skip visits, leave notes and book extra services including fridge and oven cleaning.

We’ve helped thousands of Londoners find a trusted cleaner in their local area. Book a one-off clean or a regular visit now, and leave the elbow grease to us.

The Housekeep story

Our senior team has over 50 years’ combined experience in building businesses for consumers. We’ve been involved in some of the UK’s most exciting start ups, like Streetcar/Zipcar, Lovespace and Crowdcube.

We don’t think a good idea alone is enough to be successful – and we’re putting our money where our mouth is. After all, there are 152 other home cleaning companies just in our postcode! Instead, we think it’s about being the best at what you do. We’re obsessed with providing quality home cleaners and matching that with better customer service than anyone else out there.

We’re a young company and we’re growing fast. We’ve been backed by some of the best investors in the UK and have won a couple of awards, but the thing we’re most proud of is our happy customers and happy Housekeepers

Our mission is to become the trusted provider for all your household chores. We’ve started with cleaning your house, but who knows what’s next? If you’ve got any good ideas, drop us a line!

Avin

Avin

Founder and CEO

What I do

My job is to set the vision & strategy for Housekeep and then to recruit ridiculously capable, motivated people to deliver it.

Background

Before founding Housekeep, I worked in venture capital investing in and working alongside some of the UK’s most successful consumer technology startups like Zipcar, myhomemove & Kings Court Trust. I’m also an active angel investor in 40+ businesses. Prior to this, I worked in management consulting and investment banking.

Ask me about…

Travel. Eating & drinking. Sport. Excel. Books. Startups. Technology.

Most hated cleaning task

Wrong question for me, in fact it’s hard to pick a favourite. Vacuuming, stacking dishwashers & ironing are all serious passions.

What I’d rather be doing (than cleaning)

Travelling the world, exploring new places (whilst obsessively checking in to see what’s going on in the office).

Gareth

Gareth

Chief Technology Officer

What I do

I build technology to make peoples' jobs easier. For Housekeepers, that means finding ways to give them up to date instructions and the most efficient routes between jobs. For our office staff, that means creating tools that give them all the information they need to solve the problems that come up every day.

Background

I fell into software development about ten years ago as a result of my love building things. Before Housekeep I worked on at the Future Media and Technology department of the BBC, followed by a stint at Conversocial when it was still a very small startup.

Ask me about

Python. Cycling.

Most hated cleaning task

Picking the slimy bits out of the kitchen sink's plughole.

What I’d rather be doing (than cleaning)

On a Greek beach.

Background

Before joining Housekeep I managed a London network of training centres delivering skills and employability contracts.  Exchange Group engaged with unemployed and low skilled adults helping them gain qualifications and supporting them in to employment.

What I’d rather be doing (than cleaning)

On a mountain, on a board, first off the lift.

Background

Before joining Housekeep I was a cashier at a Barclays branch in Devon, where I'm from and before that I was studying for my Philosophy degree at Durham University. I also spent a few months travelling around Europe.

What I do

It’s my job to deliver the highest quality tech. That includes the app used by our Housekeepers, the features our customers use to completely manage their cleans online, and all the tools behind the scenes to ensure that our operations team runs as smoothly as possible, and that our Housekeepers are always happy and on time.

In my professional career I have worked for companies such as MyOptique Group and CGI to deliver award-winning user experiences. I’m also a graduate of Economics from Loughborough University.

What I do

Help customers. Help housekeepers. Help everyone else in the office to do the same.

Background

I moved over from Australia to do something different. I used to work in a bookshop before I was at Housekeep. I loved it, but I wasn't very busy. Housekeep could not be more different.

Lindsey

Lindsey

Recruitment Manager

What I do

I’m responsible for finding 5* housekeepers and making sure their experience on the Housekeep is smooth and fabulous.  I interview every housekeeper in person, make sure that Housekeep is the right platform for them and give them tips on how to be a 5* housekeeper.  I love making Housekeep a great place to find jobs and keeping a smile on their faces.

Background

Before joining Housekeep I worked in a recruitment agency finding 16-24 year olds IT Apprenticeships (I much prefer working with our fabulous housekeepers!).  I have also been a cleaner myself.  I had some terrible experiences with other cleaning agencies and am so happy to be creating this lovely place for people to work.

Ask me about

Cleaning. First impressions. Baking soda. Jazz.  Gin.

Most hated cleaning task

Inside the bin!

What I’d rather be doing (than cleaning)

I actually love cleaning.  It gives me a sense of achievement when a home is sparkling. Other than cleaning, I love upcycling old furniture and sitting in jazz clubs with a whiskey, fabulous company and beautiful music.
