Crystal Palace is an area of South London, named after the now-destroyed entertainment and exhibition space. Crystal Palace is the meeting point of no less than five South London boroughs - Lewisham, Bromley, Croydon, Southwark and Lambeth.

Designed as a ‘Winter Park and Garden Under Glass’, the Crystal Palace was moved from Hyde Park to the then-named Penge Common in 1854. The impressive structure, constructed mostly of iron and glass, sadly burned in 1936 after a small explosion inside.

The area is significant for sporting fans as the home of Crystal Palace F.C. - the Premier League side who now play at Selhurst Park, slightly outside of Crystal Palace.

The area was mostly home to expensive villas when the Victorian exhibition space was moved south of the river. The area's new attraction led to residential developments in Victorian terraced style. In later years, these were joined by Edwardian properties too, and many of these homes remain reasonably priced by London’s standards.

Via Crystal Palace Railway Station, the area is well connected to Central London via the East London line of the London Overground as well Network Rail trains.
