Shepherd’s Bush has its history as a resting point for shepherds who were on their way to Smithfield Market in central London. Since then, the area has become a residential area with some big shopping attractions.

Shepherd’s Bush is home to around 40,000 residents, covering the W12 postcode district. It comprises the wards of Shepherd's Bush Green, Askew and White City. It is a very central location, surrounded by Hammersmith to the south, Notting Hill to the east, Chiswick to the west and Harlesden in the north.

The focal point is Shepherd’s Bush Green, an important shopping hub, near to which is London’s top shopping mall, Westfield. Smaller shops are available along Uxbridge Road and Goldhawk Road. There are numerous entertainment options, with the Bush Theatre and Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Shepherd’s Bush is serviced by excellent transport, with tube stations at Goldhawk Road, Shepherd’s Bush Market, Wood Lane, Shepherd’s Bush and White City.

The residential areas of Shepherds Bush are located primarily to the west of the area, typically in 3-4 storey terraces, many of which have been converted to flats.
