How often should you get your office cleaned?

How often should you get your office cleaned?

Here at Housekeep, we clean lots of offices and commercial buildings across London.

We’re often asked by our customers about how often they should be having their office cleaned.

Of course, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. All offices are different, and there are a number of factors that affect how often your office should be cleaned.

In this guide, we’ll take you through our list of office cleaning tasks, with some advice on how often you should be cleaning each of these areas.

The essentials - every day, without fail

Even if your office is not being professionally cleaned daily, there are some daily ‘housekeeping’ tasks that you should be keeping up with. Regardless of how many people come through the office, these tasks should be done at the end of each day.

Every day, you should ensure that:

- The dishwasher is filled, run & then emptied. Depending on the number of staff at your office, you may need to run more than one load
- All kitchen sides are wiped down
- Toilets are restocked and cleaned
- The coffee machine is emptied and cleaned
- Any spillages are cleaned up (this should be done right away)
- ‘High touch’ surfaces are sanitised (e.g. door knobs and handrails)

Depending on the size of your office, you may need to hire a cleaner to complete these tasks. If you’re based in a small office though, you might be able to do this between yourselves on some days of the week.

Regular cleaning tasks - multiple times per week

In addition to the essential daily office cleaning tasks, there are a number of tasks that should be completed a few times per week, at least.

These include:

- Wiping down desk tops
- Vacuuming the floors
- Mopping hard flooring
- Cleaning skirting boards
- Wiping cupboard doors
- Cleaning inside and outside of the microwave
- Wiping down meeting rooms
- Removing limescale

It’s highly likely that you’ll need to call in a helping hand to keep up with these office cleaning tasks.

Exactly how often these tasks will be required depends on the number of people working at the office and the general footfall.

If you have low footfall, and only a few employees, you may only need to complete these tasks once or twice per week.

If, however, you run a bustling office with lots of people coming in and out, you’ll likely need daily cleaners to keep on top of things.

If you’re looking to book in for office cleaning with Housekeep, our commercial cleaning team are happy to suggest a specific arrangement, based upon your office.

Deep cleaning tasks - a few times per year

No matter how rigidly you stick to the everyday and regular cleaning tasks set out above, there will always come a time when deep cleaning is required at your office.

Office deep cleaning is more thorough than a standard clean, and is designed to remove ingrained dirt. Extra attention is paid to tasks such as bathroom and kitchen descaling.

We’d usually recommend deep cleaning of your office 2-3 times per year. Deep cleans at sensible intervals will make it easier for your cleaning staff to keep on top of their regular and everyday cleaning duties.

In addition to organising a ‘deep clean’, you should also be booking relevant specialist cleaning services, such as:

- Indoor and outdoor window cleaning
- Carpet & upholstery cleaning
- Server room cleaning
