Hayes, in the North London Borough of Hillingdon, is a suburban town. Both residential and commercial, the area has great links in and out of London, as well as internationally, thanks to the nearby Heathrow Airport.
Hayes was traditionally a part of the rural county of Middlesex, but has now been enveloped by Greater London. Most of the Hayes property landscape is the result of early twentieth-century suburban development, resulting in a varied housing market of small and large properties. As opposed to inner London boroughs, properties in Hayes are often detached or semi-detached homes, as well as bungalows, many of which come complete with gardens, garages and driveways. In recent years, developers have moved in and utilised space in the area for new-build flats and apartments.
The area is not only residential, but also has a long history as a home of industry. For years, EMI had its HQ in Hayes, as did the UK branch of Heinz, although this has recently relocated to the Shard. Heathrow Airport provides a large source of employment for locals, as well as connecting their town to the rest of the globe.
Hayes and Harlington railway station is serviced by Great Western Railway, as well as Heathrow Connect, meaning transport to Central London - or the other way - is easily manageable. The addition of Crossrail services here will only make travel to Hayes more convenient.
