The Great Housekeep Bake Off: Weeks 4, 5 and 6

Bake my day! That’s right, it’s week four of the GHBO and we have another marvellous bake. The contestant this week is Lisa, Lisa has been at Housekeep
since the beginning and nothing makes her happier than seeing a five-star rated clean...and her cat! Her cake this week was an absolute show-stopper, and absolutely made our day!

Lisa made one of Nigella Lawson’s famous cakes and it truly was fab-u-lous! The cake consisted of three layers of traditional Victoria Sponge, with jam between the layers. Lisa’s bake was covered with salted caramel and buttercream icing, with chocolate ganache drizzling down the sides, and topped with crushed hazelnuts. The office fell silent whilst everyone tucked into their slice and then roared with excitement!

All of these elements worked together to make a cake that was bursting with flavour! The office even joked that we should consider delivering cake as well as offering cleaning services!

Although still early in the competition this cake could possibly be the one cake to rule them all!

Week 5 – Focaccia

It’s a Bread Bonanza! Ruth mixed up the GHBO in week 5, being the first contestant to bake something which isn’t a cake. Ruth is an absolute hoot, famous for her distinctive laugh and love of drinking tea! She is another great baker in the office, who has al    ready treated us this year to another death by chocolate cake. It was apparent right away that this bake will certainly separate the wheat from the chaff.

This classic Italian bread was wonderful; the bake was soft and chewy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. It was golden on top with rosemary and sea salt sprinkled over the top. The Focaccia was rich in flavour and was great accompanied with olive oil and roasted vegetables.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this savoury bake, as this Focaccia was superb! The first savory to come into the office and it did not disappoint! Will Ruth be able to snatch the crown with this fantastic curveball Focaccia? We’ll just have to wait and see?

Week 6 – Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies with Raisins and Walnuts

We are now over half way through the GHBO competition and we have had loads of lush treats! This week we went crazy for cookies as Kriti brought in a lovely batch of them! They were absolutely yummy and would have captivated the cookie monster- ‘omm nom nom nom’!

Kriti frequently brings us delights from her travels, bringing the office some treats from Venice, earlier this year!

How did Kriti’s cookies crumble though, you’re probably wondering?

These cookies were little discs of happiness! The chocolate chips, raisins and walnuts complimented each other very well, with the chocolate and raisins making the cookies lovely and sweet! The cookies were large, soft and chewy - just how every cookie should be!

A massive hit with the team, I must confess I had to go back for seconds! My only complaint? That there weren’t more!

Just like the cookie monster the housekeep team loves cookies. Whether they’ll be enough to snatch the GHBO title, though, we’re yet to find out!
