Deptford (SE8) is a neighbourhood in South East London, situated in the London Borough of Lewisham.

Deptford has a rich history, and was the home of the first Royal Dockyard, established in 1513 by Henry VIII. The naval dockyard continued to be run by the Royal Navy for 350 years, before being closed in the 19th century.

Nowadays, Deptford has a reputation as a trendy and up-and-coming part of South East London. Located near to Goldsmiths University in New Cross, as well as the University of Greenwich, the area is now popular with students. There is still a strong community feel in Deptford though, with local not-for-profit projects like The Albany Theatre and the Deptford Cinema giving back to the local area.

The high street and bustling market are popular with locals, and help to bring in visitors from elsewhere in the capital. The regenerated area around Deptford station, known as Deptford Market Yard, is also now home to numerous contemporary restaurants, restaurants and shops.

Deptford station is easy to travel in and out of, with National Rail trains running frequently to both London Bridge and Cannon Street. DLR trains run from the nearby Deptford Bridge Stations and the London Overground service can also be caught at New Cross station, which is just a short walk from Deptford High Street.
