Walthamstow is one of London’s most up-and-coming towns, home to a population of 100,000, situated in the postcode district E17. It covers the wards of Chapel End, Higham Hill, High Street, Hoe Street, Markhouse, William Morris and Wood Street. It is also home to Walthamstow Market, the longest single market street in Europe.

Walthamstow is centred around Walthamstow Central, which includes Walthamstow High Street and Selbourne Road, plus the market and a local farmers market on Sundays. Walthamstow Village is one of the most attractive places to live in London, just east of the main commercial district. It is a conservation area and houses many specialist shops, local pubs and restaurants and other amenities. Upper Walthamstow is a bit further east. Other local attractions include Walthamstow Town Hall, Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum and Walthamstow Stadium.

Walthamstow has its own tube station, Walthamstow Central, on the Jubilee line, providing quick access to central London. Other nearby stations include Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow Queen’s Road, Wood Street, St James Street and Lea Bridge. There are many local buses connecting to the rest of Central and East London.
