Local information about Muswell Hill

Muswell Hill lies within the North London Boroughs of Haringey and Barnet. The area sits in the N10 postcode area, and the parliamentary constituencies of Hornsey and Haringey. The name Muswell originated from a natural spring in the area called the ‘Mossy Well’. At the time, the area consisted of a few houses, but became much more densely populated after the opening of Alexandra Palace, a massive pleasure pavilion built in 1873. The Palace is connected to Central London and the North via an overground railway link, of which Muswell Hill has an intermediary station. There were plans to connect Muswell Hill to the Northern Line of the tube network, however these plans were terminated after WW2, and the route eventually became the Parkland Walk. The top of the hill holds most transport links, with bus routes connecting the area to several nearby underground stations such as Highgate, East Finchley and Turnpike Lane.
