Think Spring is the best time to do your annual deep clean? Think again!
With Autumn well and truly upon us, you’re likely to want to spend more time at home, curled up on the sofa with a movie. So, make sure your home is fresh and clean! This is the best time of year to target dust and residual pollen that may be hanging around.
So, what should you focus on for your Autumn clean?
Beds - You spend the most time in your bed, so it’s time to get out your dry-cleaned winter duvet and flip your mattress. You can even use a handheld vacuum (or an upright one if you’re feeling strong) to gently get rid of dust.
Sofas - Spraying a little bit of air freshener on your sofas won’t get rid of the dust that will have built up over the warm summer months. Similar to your bed, it’s best to flip the cushions, wash any cushion covers, and vacuum down the cracks of the sofa. Be sure to pop any winter throws or blankets you are likely to use in the wash too, so they’re fresh and snug for the cold evenings!
Windows - For those of you with pollen allergies, it’s likely that over the Summer months open windows were not your friend. Now’s the time to get them freshened up, getting rid of built up leftover pollen. Spray some home made glass cleaner (3 parts water, 1 part vinegar) onto the window, and wipe with a cloth or sponge. To get your windows extra shiny, rub with a scrunched up newspaper (honest, it works!). For good measure, spray and wipe down some antibacterial spray on your window sills.
Carpets - Thoroughly cleaning your carpet is a job that requires specialist equipment, and is usually a rare occurrence. To help keep your carpets fresh between specialist cleans, invest in some carpet shampoo for particularly dirty areas. Be sure to look after your vacuum and maintain a high level of suction throughout the year, to suck up as much dust as you can throughout the year.
Of course, there’s a million and one things you could clean, but dusty areas are a great place to start. So what are you waiting for? Grab your vacuum and get going! You can then put your feet up with a hot chocolate and start thinking about your Christmas shopping...
