Is hiring a cleaner really worth it?

This is a question that's bound to play on your mind if you're about to hire your first cleaner. We're slightly biased so, unsurprisingly, we think it's a justified expense and one that makes a real, tangible difference to people's quality of life. Perhaps this is because we are lucky enough to see the positive effects of cleaners on a day-to-day basis.

We find that people often come to us having had poor prior experience with other agencies or with independent cleaners. These issues often stem from questionable cleaner reliability and/or concerns around quality of work.

This is the crux of the matter -in honesty, whether a cleaner is worth it really depends on who works for you.

If they're a reliable, thorough and resourceful cleaner, then you'll find the cost of hiring them to be an absolute bargain. For a small weekly or fortnightly fee, you'll see your quality of life improve and you'll feel like your home is a different place; those who live in clean homes report lower stress & higher productivity, amongst other benefits. For those working from home or running their own businesses, for instance, having a cleaner could be an investment in your own success, as well as your wellbeing.

If you're unlucky, however, you might find that you're spending money on someone who doesn't approach the job correctly - perhaps they're difficult to feed back to or don't quite understand how you like things to be done. In these instances people find it difficult or awkward to be honest with their cleaner. At one extreme this can lead to huge awkwardness when you're unsure of how to 'let your cleaner go'. People can then end up feeling trapped, without an out & spending money on something that just isn't worth it.

Drum roll...that's where we come in.

This is why you need a little help. Hiring a cleaner alone is a lot of work - you've got to find them, vet them & interview them all before their first clean. After all this work, it's no surprise people continue with arrangements that aren't quite working and are reluctant to find a new cleaner, in spite of their gripes.

But what if you didn't have to? What if someone else could do the work?

Having a cleaner is deeply personal; sometimes you're just not the right fit, through no fault of either party. Working with a platform such as Housekeep can reduce the effort on your part - like, seriously reduce it!

The vetting, interviewing and sourcing is all off your plate. You can let a Housekeep cleaner into your house with the peace of mind that they're English-speaking, background-checked & experienced, without any effort on your part. If things don't work out you've got no obligation to continue with the same cleaner & we'll find you the highest-rated alternative to resume your schedule.

What about quality control?

You won't think twice about the quality of your cleaner. With an average clean rating of 4.7* you can be confident when you book through Housekeep that your cleaner knows what to do, and how to do it well. They're reliable too, and we have some great tech and a team of elite cover Housekeepers who can step in for illness or emergency cover.

So what's the downside?

Well, you might pay a small premium if you book through a platform like us. This difference is what pays, however, for all the hard work you don't want to do - for £5 or £6 more per clean, you're freed from the pain of vetting, interviewing and monitoring your cleaner. Instead, you can book (in 60 seconds, we might add) and then relax in a clean home. It's as simple as that, and with slots available right up until 18:00 the day before, you won't find yourself waiting weeks for that clean home, either.
