Located 4 miles North of Charing Cross Dalston began as a hamlet within Hackney, encompassing Dalston Lake. The East London district now extends from Shoreditch in the south, to Kingsland Road in the West, Farleigh Road in the North and Lower Clapton on its eastern boundary. It is also sometimes said that Dalston extends as far as the park at London Fields. The area encompasses the postcode areas E8, N1 and N16. One of the notable buildings in the area is St Mark’s Church, capable of holding up to 2000 people, earning it the nickname, ‘Cathedral of the East End’. We also see notable people from the area, such as Tony Blair who lived at 59 Mapledene Road. For transport, the two main stations are Dalston Kingsland and Dalston Junction, both Overground stations with easy links to the rest of London.
