Situated on the southern edge of London, Shirley is an area within the London Borough of Croydon.
Shirley is known as the former home of the Lloyd's Monks Orchard House, which has sadly now been demolished, and the current home of Shirley Windmill, which is widely thought to be the last large windmill that was built in Surrey. In pop culture, Shirley is known as the home of Ronnie Corbett, of 'The Two Ronnies' fame.
Much of Shirley was built in the twentieth century, with many of the flats and houses that stand today being erected during the interwar years. The wide selection of detached and semi-detached houses in the area has made Shirley a popular destination for those looking to move out of the city to a quieter area.
For those looking to travel into Central London, Shirley is just a short bus ride from East Croydon station, which has frequent Thameslink connections into the city.
