Waltham Forest is a borough of North East London, on the edge of Greater London. The borough is green and residential, particularly north of the North Circular, and Waltham Forest’s northern point borders the westernmost district of Essex, Epping Forest.
The borough has a strong sense of community, with Walthamstow’s traditional East End Market boasting the title of Europe’s longest street market. Walthamstow High Street and other areas of the borough date back to Victorian times and much earlier; Roman discoveries have even led certain camps of historians to speculate as to whether Leyton, an area within the borough, may have been the site of the Roman base Derolitum. Sadly, such claims have little archeological corroboration
As Central London prices have steadily increased, it’s unsurprising that outer London boroughs have become increasingly popular with those happy to commute a little further. Homes are larger than in central London, with detached and semi-detached houses complementing terraced period property and converted flats. Twentieth-century purpose built flats and even some new-builds are in high demand amongst young professionals and families.
For those who make this move, transport to Central London for work is still perfectly viable; Victoria Line and London overground trains run through Walthamstow Central, while Leyton and Leytonstone both receive frequent service from the Central Line.
