The London borough of Southwark, immediately south of the River Thames, sits opposite the City of London. Since the turn of the millenium, the borough has become home to some of London’s most recognisable structures and landmarks.
Popular landmarks within the borough include the Shard, London and Britain’s tallest building, as well as the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe. Southwark is also home to borough market, one of the capital’s longest-serving markets, opened in Victorian times.
